The btc
community outreach program, Dance to Community Kids,
engaged individuals and over 11 sponsor companies to partner with
us to introduce over 900 youth from undeserved communities to ballet
and the Aronoff Center in support of our initiative
to expand the audience for the arts and downtown Cincinnati venues.
The
Leaping for Literacy Project has been established by
ballet tech cincinnati to celebrate literacy through
fun and entertaining performances, and to encourage families to read
together and use their own creative skills to reinforce their interest
in books. Studies have shown that children who read and are read to
at home are more successful in school. Reading is essential!
This program comes to fruition each spring, when we perform our family-friendly,
literacy based original ballets. This year's production, This
year's production, is based on the classic tale titled
"Rikki TIkki Tavi" by beloved children's author, Rudyard
Kipling, who also wrote "Jungle Book." Past Productions
include"Made
in America"- a journey through time and across
our nation based on the “Dear America,” “American Girl,” and “My Name
is America” book series;."Happily
Ever After"a show packed full of charming and clever
characters from an assortment of beloved fairy tales; The Seuss-inspired
production, "Green Legs and Ham"
performed to sold-out crowds; and "The Conductor's"
an uplifting tale of separation and strength,
tribulation and triumph, about one family’s quest to obtain their
freedom through the Underground Railroad. These past productions are
now part of our Educational Touring Company's repertoire - made up
of area youth and community members. We tour area schools and community
venues promoting literacy and the arts.
In addition, the project includes an annual poster and poetry contest
and outreach performances to area libraries and bookstores.
